Halloween 2008

We went trick-or-treating with about 10 neighborhood kids -- all girls, and all at least 10 years older than Carter. He had no idea what was going on at first and wasn't really into it. He just ran around in the street for a little bit and seemed confused about what to do.

But once we started hitting the houses, he figured it out pretty quickly. By the end he was walking along with the group, going up to doors and holding out his green pumpkin pail. He even stopped to give a tiger rawr here and there.

We went to about 10 houses, and Carter was asking to go home after that. He ate a small bag of M&Ms and a Reese's peanut butter cup, and did a tiny bit of bouncing off the walls before going to bed at 9 p.m.

Here, the tiger is getting dressed. Auntie Rachel drew whiskers on his cheeks with my eyeliner:

Here's the tiger with two evil surgeons?

Candy before dinner

Carter never gets candy. So when he got a lollipop from Auntie Rachel today, he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Oh yeah, he's liking the sugar.

And then it got a little messy.

Happy Halloween!

I'll be taking a bunch of pictures tonight, so look for them soon.

Meanwhile, Carter peruses the house library:

Maybe you shouldn't read Lolita just yet:

Now a comic book, that's something a little guy can read.

Singing in the...driveway

Not sure Carter knows what rain is, but he had a lot of fun with my Union-Tribune umbrella the other day.

A few more Vegas pics

Back to Gilroy Gardens

Carter is sick with a croupy cough and hoarse voice. He's as irritable as I've ever seen him. But those are really the only symptoms, so on the whole this isn't that bad.

He started getting cranky at Gilroy Gardens on Saturday. Maybe that's because I made him wear this hat:

Art day

Carter is quite the artist. Here's one of the art sessions we have:

First up, fingerpainting.

Isn't his little smock cute?

The brush:

I call this piece "Barf on Paper."

Messy hands.

Next, pumpkin painting.

And truck stickers!

Vegas, baby!

I took Carter to Vegas for the weekend to visit Nana and Papa, who were there for a conference. Ava and Grant made their way up as well. And a nonstop toddler party ensued.

Carter didn't go to sleep until 11 pm. He got to try breath mints. He ran around casinos and spun the chairs in front of slot machines. He slapped a waitress' butt. He served pretend chocolate cake in a play house. He ate french fries for lunch. He saw white lion cubs wrestling together. He danced to a German polka band. He grabbed my pina colada when I wasn't looking and drank several gulps.

Is it any wonder that, when we pulled up to the house today, he screamed and refused to get out of his car seat?

Dancing? No, just trying to stomp on the lights.

Eating fruit.

Meeting his first drag queen. OK, it was just an M&M statue.
