The Bubble BBQ

Dinner's a little different now
The pediatrician told me recently that I had to stop making special meals for Carter. Make him eat whatever you eat, he advised. He needs to learn about different kinds of food.
I knew he was right, but it was hard to move from the tried-and-true foods that Carter liked eating. He's so skinny, after all, and I didn't want to make it even harder for him to gain weight.
So for the last week or so, dinner has been an experiment. I started off easy, with grilled cheese sandwiches. Carter wouldn't touch them. Next, I tried a frittata. No way. The third night I offered him grilled chicken, and he ate it all.
Here, he has a roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and bok choy. He took about three bites of potatoes and left the table. Sigh....
Tonight, I reverted back when the grownups had chicken tacos. I didn't think Carter could handle a taco at this point. Carter ate some of his plain udon noodles, tomatoes and cucumber.
But he got a few chocolate cookies and jello, and you can see how much he liked them:
Right before bed, he ate blueberry yogurt, half a banana and a handful of Cheerios.

Ka-chow!
Carter is truly obsessed with the movie "Cars" and all the characters. He asks to watch it every day. He has most of the cars from the movie and a carrying case to put them in. He has Lightning McQueen shoes and bath towels. He loves to push the cars around the couch and pretend like they're talking to each other.
Here are the lines he likes to say from the movie:
"I am speed."
"Boy, you're in a heap of trouble."
"You gotta fix the road."
"Ka-chow!"
"We got ourselves a nodder!"
"Pretty music!"
Two year checkup
Carter went to the doctor Tuesday for his two-year checkup. He continues to be underweight, and the doctor said to keep him on whole milk instead of the normal switch to 2 percent milk at this age.
He's three feet tall, which puts him in the 75th percentile.
He weighs just 25.5 pounds, which is the 25th percentile.
And his head is 51.7 cm around, which is in the 95th percentile.
The doctor wasn't too concerned about his weight. Wouldn't we all like to be tall and skinny, he said.
I forgot to check Carter's cuteness percentile. I'd put it at about 98:

At the aquarium
We went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium last week. It was Carter's first aquarium trip and he had a swimmingly good time.
First stop was Noah's Bagels. Carter got a candy cane bagel and watched the Curious George movie on the way down there. The drive took about 90 minutes.
He had this look on his face the whole time.

This whale was a lot heavier than it looks!
Sorting out the square and round blocks. Carter is very methodical and neat (who knows where he got that from) and he loved this game.

Christmas in Iceland
Christmas in Iceland. This has nothing to do with Carter. I just like the photo and wanted to get it online so I wouldn't lose it.
Lots of presents!
With a birthday on the 20th and Christmas on the 25th, Carter is destined to haul a lot of presents home every December. This year, a trip to the hospital guaranteed a few extra. Here are just a few of the gifts he received.
