Swimming lessons, day 3

Theresa told me about this miracle swimming teacher that gets kids to swim in record time. I was skeptical, since this teacher ran the lessons out of her own pool and didn't have a website. Was she really that good? But, it's been really obvious that Carter needs to learn to swim, and fast, since so many people have pools in their backyards and are using them all the time.

So, we started him at the teacher's house. And on the first day he was in tears. It was hardcore. The teacher pulled him underwater, and he didn't know how to close his mouth and was getting water in every time. He would cough and choke and scream about how he didn't want to do it.

What a disaster. I had to turn away from the sight, it was just breaking my heart.

Well, on the second day something clicked. He learned how to close his mouth and he started to have fun. He progressed so much that he was diving for rings at the end. Or so I was told. I didn't go since I had a hair appointment, and yes, getting my hair colored and cut took priority over my son's swimming anxieties. His dad took him.

I went on the third day and took some videos. You'll see what I mean by hardcore, but even in this video he is improving. Try to ignore the screaming baby in the background:

Carter's new room

We decided to make a new room for Carter, since the room he took in the house wasn't really much of a boy's room. It had this mural on the wall:

It's a cute room, but it just wasn't Carter. So we decided to move him into another room that had this blue striping on one wall:

I wanted to try a different paint scheme and a chair rail. It worked nicely:

We made it a Toy Story theme. I'll post the final product in a while.

My sous chef

Carter loves to help me cook dinner. And that mostly involves snacking on cheese, raw veggies and whatever else he can find on the counter. Here, we're working on mini brownies.

It was mostly for older kids, but Carter found a few things to like. Starting with the computer, of course. He has three at home he can play with and this is the first thing he goes for:

Busted lip

Carter took a spill at a Memorial Day party, running to me and falling on some rough brick stairs. We rushed him to Urgent Care after a doctor at the party said he needed stitches. But the doctor at Urgent Care disagreed, saying that as long as the cut stayed within the lip line he was fine.

He's bruised and scabby today. Looks like he's been in a bar fight. He took this self-portrait with my camera and it actually shows the damage pretty well. Ah, boys....
