Bedtime routine

I'm taking a parenting class with my friend Sandie, and one of the things the teachers always stress is to allow your child to feel a little bit more in control of their lives. One of the ways to do that is to take pictures of their bedtime routines, print out the photos and let your kid decide the order in which to do things.

So I did that. Here are the photos Carter gets to choose from:

Brush your teeth

Floss your teeth

Put Vaseline in your nose (the dry heat gives him bloody noses at night)

Go potty

Wash your hands

Play play play

Awww...

I found this picture buried in my camera. How adorable! Taken in May 2009. I showed it to Carter and he said, "That was before I had my angry face."

Driving to San Diego

From our drive to San Diego. Carter had a peach milkshake and an iPad. That's all it takes to get this kind of smile:

Birthday party

We went to a birthday party at the mall yesterday. Five-year-old twins that Carter met at preschool two years ago. Pizza and cake were served, of course.

From there, it was on to Build-A-Bear Workshop, where everyone got to pick one bear, one outfit and one pair of shoes. Carter immediately zeroed in on the camouflage bear. Please tell me this is not a sign of future military service.

Giving the bear a bath:

Making a wish with the bear's heart. Carter's wish: "I wish Star Wars was real."

Helping the bear get filled:

Carter picked a C-3PO outfit for the bear, which he named Max. Here he is with Max and his R2-D2 backpack:

Bad parenting in San Diego

Hey Carter, want to go on a huge roller coaster with me?

He gave me this look.

And then we went. And he was TERRIFIED.

The wait-in-line dance

I'll be posting some pictures from our San Diego trip over the next few days. Here we are at SeaWorld waiting for the sky ride. Carter showed off a few moves...

And then he grabbed the leg of the woman in front of him, thinking it was me! He was very embarrassed.

First day of pre-K

Carter started pre-kindergarten today! I went to Target a few days ago to buy him his first school supplies. It was so exciting! I'm serious. Now I know why my parents were so happy when the first day of school came around every year...

Oh, and that mark on his cheek? He jumped into the pool yesterday backwards. His cheek hit the pool deck on the way down.
